Amy Cottage

Amy Cottage *was built around the 16th or 17th century, possibly when Queen Elisabeth the 1st was on the throne or Charles II was crowned King of England. The cottage is Grade II listed.

The cottage has no foundations and is built predominantly from cob and thatch. This ensures that the cottage is cool in the summer months and warm in the winter months. It is amazing to think a cottage made of mud and horsehair still stands today after so many years.

The cottage has two bathrooms downstairs, a bath and a separate shower room. All three bedrooms are upstairs, the two main bedrooms have king sized beds, and the smaller bedroom has a single bed. All bedding is French linen.

*Amy Cottage does not have a toilet or bathroom upstairs.

The lounge has a large corner sofa, a smart TV, Wi-fi and an electric coal effect fire, it is a very special place to snuggle down on a cold night or to relax and unwind on a summer’s evening.

The dining room has a pine table and seats up to six people.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all you need to cook a fantastic meal for friends and family. The range cooker is electric, there are two fridges, and a gorgeous kitchen table taking centre stage in the kitchen.

The boot/utility room has plenty of space for coats and boots and also houses a washing machine and tumble dryer.

The Area

There were only a small handful of thatched cob cottages built along Main Road in the fifteen and sixteen hundred’s, you can guess which ones still remain as they still retain their original thatches and undulating walls.

Elisabeth’s Cottage, Tewkesbury Cottage and The Nest are three in the immediate vicinity.

The Castle Inn dates back to 1660 and is highly recommended for both food and drink, but book early as the pub does get busy especially in the summer months.

The Ghost Village of Tyneham. One of the most popular and famous places to visit locally is Tyneham Village where Churchill evacuated the village in 1943 for the war effort and it was never given back to the landowner or the villagers. A village lost and frozen in time. Located at What3Words///refills.tuxedos.being

Sculptures by the Lake is truly an inspirational experience, nestled in 26 acres of Dorset countryside. Described as one of the most beautiful and unique settings in the UK, with over 120 sculptures positioned across the park, it is a magical landscape. The café is also excellent for coffee and lunches. Located at Pallington Lakes, Dorchester, DT2 8QU.

The Tank Museum is a collection of armoured fighting vehicles at Bovington Camp in Dorset. The collection traces the history of the tank, offers explosive displays and tells the story of armoured warfare spanning over 100 years. Explore ten powerful exhibitions and the museums unique collection including the world’s first ever tank, the feared German Tiger and the modern Challenger 2. Located at Linsay Road, Bovington, Wareham BH20 6JG.

The Lulworth Skipper. Lulworth is home to a small butterfly called the Lulworth Skipper, this particular butterfly can only be found along the army ranges and cliffs of Lulworth. It cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

*Amy Cottage is so old that the exact date of construction is unknown.

*We, as owners of Amy Cottage are not able to install a toilet upstairs as the cottage is Grade II listed and is of enormous historical importance.
